That "Whoa" Moment

Perpetual means continuous, constant. Pencraft is the craft of writing; anything from scrawl to calligraphy. So, this blog is about constantly writing down words, letters, scribbles, and yes, scrawling.

Scrawling is a splendid word!

When I am bored, I will sometimes pick up a pen and paper of any kind and think about writing. I’ll set up a notebook and sit at my desk, or the kitchen table, and stare at a page of nothingness. To me, this is working on my writing. There is meaning in staring at a page. It says that I have the desire to write.

Sometimes I’ll jot down a simple phrase or word that grabs me. Yes, they grab me, I think you know what I mean. An idea that refuses to go away or a fleeting thought that makes you stop what you are doing and realize, “whoa, I need to write that down!”

Perpetual Pencraft is all about the whoa moments. Sometimes those jots come to nothing. Often, they are forgotten and tucked away in a desk drawer to be found later as a crumpled-up Post-it™ When I find them, I have one of two reactions:

  1. What was that supposed to mean?
  2. Oh, wow this is good, glad I kept it.

Whoa moments are what keep me writing.
